In Saint Patrick’s our Senior Infant classes get a great start to help them with their literacy skills. The class is divided into three groups covering three literacy activities; reading, writing and phonics. Each group works for 10 minutes at each activity on a rotational basis. The school has bought lots of carefully structured books for each class and we are using them for ‘Literacy Lift Off’.
The class teacher is supported by two other teachers from the special needs team, working closely together to spport and closely monitor each group. The work reinfores what is being taught in the classroom and the children really benefit from this individual attention due to the smaller groups.
This programme has proven to be very successful.
